Pns: Riding on a lone goal from Nasiruddin Chowdhury, defending champions Abahani Limited returned to the winning track by defeating Chittagong Abahani Limited by 1-0 in the Saif Power Battery Bangladesh Premier League football yesterday at Bangabandhu National Stadium. By winning the match, Abahani earned three valuable points, lifting their tally to 24 and bringing them closer to table toppers Chittagong Abahani Limited, who despite the defeat, finished the first leg with 26 points.

From the onset, the keenly contested match was marked by good pace and it continued throughout the 90-minute regulation time as both sides played an attacking game. But it took 77 minutes to break the deadlock as Nasiruddin did the most important task when his gentle back header to a trade-mark long throw found the net (1-0).

Earlier, Raphael Odoyin struck four goals as Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club thrashed Farashganj Sporting Club by 5-0 to strongly remain in the title race in the Saif Power Battery Bangladesh Premier League football.

Held at the same venue in the day’s second match, defender Yasin of Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club also scored a goal apart from the four by Raphael.

By winning the match, Jamal finished their first leg with 24 points from 11 matches, while Farashganj was relegated to the bottom of the table with six points. Raphael, the Nigerian striker who had gone goalless in his last seven matches, was desperate to score in this match. He opened the account in the third minute itself and completed his hat-trick by scoring two more on the 25th and 30th minutes, and netted another one in the 35th minute. Defender Yasin scored one in the fifth minute with a good header.
